KONY is again a hot topic in the media although this time for its lack of following.
There are claims by social media experts that KONY missed the boat with the ‘Cover the Night’ event. They say it was held too long after the social media onslaught where over 100million people watched his video on YouTube.
Is this a case of lack of planning by Jason Russell to make the most of the social media onslaught, or is this an example of how, the masses seem too quick to support with their fingers and not their hearts?
I am sure the charity ’Invisible Children’ were not expecting this reaction. This group has been in operation for many years so this wasn't an overnight prank, so to speak.
In this social media generation, combined with today’s short attention span, people are all too quick to "fleeting finger commit" and not follow through. Sadly this says more about the lack of genuineness of the connected generation than the inability of Jason and his team to keep the cause going.
Maybe if Jason Russell understood today’s media generation as well as he understands the plight of the children he is trying to rescue, he could have harnessed that power more effectively for long term gain.
Where are all those people who threw their hearts, souls and commitment behind this valuable cause? Where have THEY gone?
